High Wind Safety Tips

High winds are usually associated with storms, but there are times that the passing of a storm may cause for a windy day. It is important to know what to do and what not to do before, during, and after a wind event.

Once there has been a high wind advisory issued for your area, here are a few precautions you should take:

*Ensure that you have closed and secured all windows and doors

*Bring in any loose items from outside that can become airborne and cause damage

*Secure large outdoor objects- that includes patio furniture, grills, umbrellas, play structures (bounce houses or trampolines), and garbage cans

*If you know in advance that you will have high winds remove dead trees or overhanging branches near your home

Once the wind has died down and the wind advisory has been lifted for your area, you should check your property for any damages.

*Be aware of hazards when walking around your property

*If you find any  downed power lines, you should report them to the police and your local electrical company

*Make sure that no one touches or moves those downed power lines

Following these few safety tips can help prevent damages on a windy day.
